There is hope for Minnesota
Well I am loathe to bring up one of the three "G"s (guns, gays and God) I do think that the results of this poll deserve a closer look.
Here is the first half of the poll I wrote about here. I think many people will be as surprised by the results as I was.
"QUESTION: Do you think the state of Minnesota should allow public agencies to grant health benefits to the same-sex partners of their employees?"
48% of the respondents said that the state should not which certainly surprised me. I honestly was afraid that those who approve would have a slightly higher percentage.
"QUESTION: Do you think the state of Minnesota should legally recognize same sex marriage?"
61% of the respondents said that the state should not recognize same sex marriage! Now we know why former Senator Dean Johnson was so afraid to put this on the referendum ballot. He knew, as did the rest of the DFL leadership, that they are out of step with the people of Minnesota on this issue. That has not stopped them from trying to push the bill through by stealth.
The people of Minnesota deserve a legislature that does not lie to them or tries to "sneak" things past them. I think the people of Minnesota deserve an honest legislature. I think that Minnesotans are smarter than this. Let us hope that these words (to the left of this paragraph) come back to haunt State Senator Tarryl Clark and the rest of the DFL legislature.
