Climate Change - A Historical Timeline.
We had quite the spirited debate in my last post on "climate change" and during that debate I brought up a point that is often ignored by the global climate change alarmists.
Well my good friend Gary Gross sent me a graphic today that not only illustrates the previous cycles, it also documents what really caused all of the climate change (and it was not SUVs or factories....)
If you look at the far right on the graphic you can see that the last trend of global "warming" actually peaked in 1998 and we are now at the bottom (so far) of this latest cooling trend. We saw SNOW in Minnesota and Canada as late as June this year and as far south as NEW ORLEANS LA as this picture from January of this year indicates.
That does not mean that we should stop all efforts to reduce the amount of pollutants that we are putting into the air. But it does mean that we do not have to take the extremely draconian measures that are outlined in the misguided Cap and Trade bill that was just passed by the House. Our three Utah Representatives were all quite right to vote against this bill.
Richard - some scientific "facts" to lay on ya...
Fact 1) at one time during early history of the Earth, much of the upper Midwest was covered in VAST SHEETS OF ICE. What caused them to melt? Global climate change....
Fact 2) at one time during the early history of the Earth the Salt Lake Valley was covered by the ocean - we have a remnant of that with us today in the form of the Great Salt Lake. What caused THAT ocean to recede and evaporate? Global Climate change!
Global climate change is real but as the previous two examples SCIENTIFICALLY PROVE mankind has nothing to do with it. There were NO coal-fired power plants, no SUV's, mega-opolis' full of people then. Just a living changing planet that circles a living changing sun.

The "snow in June" defense of denial is probably one of the stupidess presented by your side. Weather /= Climate.
Also, try as you may, you have to stretch quiet a bit (or should I say scrape the bottom of the barrel) to find a scientist who disagrees that we are seeing erratic climate change that "could" be a result of man made C02.
If anyone (and this does include you, LL) tells you there is a consensus that man IS influencing the climate, or is NOT influencing the climate, that person is not to be trusted. They are making decisions with faith like pre-belief, not scientific methods of deduction.
There is not such consensus for either side. Scientist agree they see change. They aren't sure what is causing it, but admit it could, indeed, be man made.
And this being something there are no "take backsies" on, I know what an intelligent species would do, and I know what an obtuse species would do.
You are on the obtuse side.

I can't remember if I have mentioned it on this blog before, but the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Advisory Council on Climate Change concluded (PDF):
Based on extensive scientific research, there is very high confidence that human-generated increases in greenhouse gas concentrations are responsible for most of the global warming observed during the past 50 years.
In the report, "very high confidence" is defined as 90 percent or better. Please read this, it's short and written in easily understandable language.

"The bank owns a 10 percent stake in the Chicago Climate Exchange, where the carbon credits will be traded. Moreover, Goldman owns a minority stake in Blue Source LLC, a Utah-based firm that sells carbon credits of the type that will be in great demand if the bill passes."

I have a very high confidence that there is no evidence. However being very high is not a good way to decide who goes out of business because you see blue whales in your cream of wheat. CLIMATE CHANGES that is what it does, unless you never leave your glass bubble. You have a 50/50 chance- call it global warming or cooling but you must CHOOSE before you close businesses in the name of global wealth redistribution.
