Founders Morning Quote
"Let the pulpit resound with the doctrine and sentiments of religious liberty. Let us hear of the dignity of man's nature, and the noble rank he holds among the works of God... Let it be known that British liberties are not the grants of princes and parliaments."
--John Adams, Dissertation on the Canon and Feudal Law, 1765
This particular quote by Adams is one of many that puts to lie the cannard of a separation of church and state (something that was never EVER in the Constitution BTW). The Founders realized that a free country relied on a MORAL populace and a moral populace comes from religion for most of the major religions teach a respect for your fellow man that law simply can not enforce as well as religion does. Religions can (and often do) change hearts and minds in a way that the law simply can not do. Christianity, in particular, teaches that there is a freedom found in living a Godly life that makes the earthly life pale in comparison. It is not about what "thou shall or shall not do", it's about what truly loving others as much as you love yourself. When you do that, the rest is easy.
Over the next couple of days, I will be highlighting some more Founding Father quotes that specifically highlight the their religious beliefs - because (believe it or not) there is a lot of misinformation - some say revisionist history - out there about it.
