Kentucky Derby Blogging
I'm stuck at home for the Derby today (as opposed to watching the festivities from the nearby horse racing facility). I rarely bet, or if I do, it's not much. I am a rail bird....I am happiest just standing trackside watching those beautiful beasts race by. I had a couple of race track rejects in my youth. there is noting like the power you feel with sitting on a horse running full out!
The field is full again - 20 horses. I have not really been doing my usual pre-Derby research this year so it is probably a good thing I am not at the track! Based on what I have seen on NBC in the pre-race coverage, I am leaning toward the following horses.
The nuber 6 horse Cowtown Cat. A decendent of Storm Cat and trained by a D. Wayne Lukas protogee this colt stands a real good chance of surprising a lot of people. Pre race odds 10-1
The number 12 horse is Nobizlikeshowbiz. Another Storm Cat grandson. Pre-race odds 10-1
The number 14 horse is Scat Daddy - another Todd Pletcher entry. Pre-race odds 7-1.
The number 20 horse Great Hunter - Corey Nakatani is riding and you can not take this rider for granted. They are going off at 24-1.
And they're off!
UPDATE!!!!! WOW!!! Street Sense (the favorite at 9-2) came from 19th in a field of 20 to win the race! What a ride!!!!!! Carl Nafzger (trained Unbridled in 1990) is the trainer is an all around good guy. Congrats to the trainer, jockey and owner of Street Sense. It was an unbelievable race!
