More Global Warming Follies
If the holder of the most powerful office in the world proposed a policy guaranteed to inflict untold damage on his own country and many others, on the basis of claims so demonstrably fallacious that they amount to a string of self-deluding lies, we might well be concerned. The relevance of this is not to President Bush, as some might imagine, but to a recent policy statement by President-elect Obama.
Tomorrow, delegates from 190 countries will meet in Poznan, Poland, to pave the way for next year's UN conference in Copenhagen at which the world will agree a successor to the Kyoto Protocol on climate change. They will see a video of Mr Obama, in only his second major policy commitment, pledging that America is now about to play the leading role in the fight to "save the planet" from global warming.Mr Obama begins by saying that "the science is beyond dispute and the facts are clear". "Sea levels," he claims, "are rising, coastlines are shrinking, we've seen record drought, spreading famine and storms that are growing stronger with each passing hurricane season."
Far from the science being "beyond dispute", we can only deduce from this that Mr Obama has believed all he was told by Al Gore's wondrously batty film An Inconvenient Truth without bothering to check the facts. Each of these four statements is so wildly at odds with the truth that on this score alone we should be seriously worried.
Meanwhile, an unusual White Christmas is costing bookies in the UK a small fortune.
BOOKMAKERS were left facing a payout of more than £100,000 after several northern cities enjoyed a white Christmas yesterday.
Flakes of snow fell in Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh and across the hills of north Wales and the north Midlands, confounding the earlier predictions of weather forecasters.
After months of wet weather and talk of global warming, two lucky punters in Glasgow were left counting winnings of £1,600 and £700 each, cashing-in on odds of 6/1 - some of the most generous on record. That snow fell in Leeds yesterday morning was an even bigger surprise for the bookies who had been forced to shorten odds from 8/1 to 4/7 after betting on a white Christmas exceeded £100,000 for the first time.
Yeah - this global warming thing is so real......

An early or heavy snow or unseasonable cold is hardly "proof" that global warming is not a reality.
Statements to the effect show merely your lack of understanding of climate science.
Again, anyone who claims to "know" either that global warming is an absolute truth OR that it is an absolute farce is full of it. No one knows. And an intelligent species would err on the side of caution, not capitalism.

It would be interesting to know what the "warming" fanatics would regard as disproof of their theory of a constantly increasing temperature, since they obviously don't regard the evidence of the last few years, that is, normally fluctuating temperatures, as disproof.
Also, isn't that story from 2001?

Jason, I see your point. I say we err on the side of caution and not bankrupt the entire world economy, throwing billions into chaos and death attempting to enact an impossible "solution" not even the AGW theorists believe will have any appreciable effect.
As for Poznan, the group at the center it is so flagrantly biased and money-driven even the UN (!!) has criticized their management and goals.

Which is why, Jason, we should not bankrupt the world economy by FORCING everyone back into the Dark Ages. We need to take this a little bit slower than the activists want us to.
Anon - thanks for the link....I had a devil of a time with this link yesterday. The Logical Husband sent it to me and I kept getting a 404 error so I had to look it up the hard way and well...user error being what it can be....

Oh Jason - have you taken a look at the weather to the east of us this year? After years of unseasonably mild winters, the Great Lakes and Atlantic seaboard are getting unseasonably COLD weather.
Here's a hint....the weather moves in CYCLES. Some years are normal, some years are colder and some years are hotter. That IS the way of nature.

Cycles that move both in 300 and 1000 year curves. And there's not a damn thing we can do to influence it.
But you can buy one of Al Gore's Carbon Crypts if it'll make you feel better.
