What Goes Around.....
At least 42 people have died, including 11 in Kentucky, and conditions are worsening in many places days after an ice storm knocked out power to 1.3 million customers from the Plains to the East Coast. About a million people were still without electric Friday, and with no hope that the lights will come back on soon, small communities are frantically struggling to help their residents.
One county put it bluntly: It can't.
"We're asking people to pack a suitcase and head south and find a motel if they have the means, because we can't service everybody in our shelter," said Crittenden County Judge-Executive Fred Brown, who oversees about 9,000 people, many of whom are sleeping in the town's elementary school.
Local officials were growing angry with what they said was a lack of help from the state and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In Grayson County, about 80 miles southwest of Louisville, Emergency Management Director Randell Smith said the 25 National Guardsmen who have responded have no chain saws to clear fallen trees.
Emphasis mine. However, my friend Rick Moran not only beat me to the punch but did so in such a hysterically snarky way that there is simply no way to beat it.
With nearly 1.5 million people in the mid-west without power during a cold snap, what other possible reason is there that this new "competent" administration and FEMA would be failing so spectacularly in helping in this natural disaster?
It's got to be that Obama hates white people and wants them to die!
Of course Rick is being sarcastis....
Of course, I am just aping what lefty blogs were saying about Bush less than 24 hours after Katrina's hurricane winds stopped blowing. But AP is reporting that Midwest disaster relief people are none too pleased with our new president's FEMA.
but.....
Smith is also quoted as saying that FEMA is a "no show."What's that? Here we are 5 days after the storm ended and still no FEMA? I demand a Congressional investigation. And let's get all the anchors and media people down here pronto. People's lives are at stake. For all we know, there are babies being eaten and people jumping off their roofs committing suicide because FEMA is nowhere to be found. And where is our president? Shouldn't he be visiting these ravaged areas? It must be that he HATES WHITE PEOPLE AND WANTS THEM TO DIE. That is the only possible explanation for this incredible failure of our national government to relieve the suffering of these people.
The shoe is on the other foot guys. We'll see how much you like having your guy savaged for things that are beyond his control....
What's the old saying about payback?????

I think I saw this on "The Daily Show" already. John Oliver pinned the blame for winter squarely on President Obama.
After all, he's been in office for ten whole days, and the country is still a mess! There's frozen water all over the place!

We drove through some of that area last week on vacation. I think we went over an hour where there was no power. No gas, no food, no lodging, and the trees along the way bowed over with ice. Many cars, 5 semis in the ditch. Freaky, like "The Day After" or "Jericho" in the twilight.
And now that you mention it, the word "FEMA" completely unmentioned, just a couple of National Guard deployments here and there.
But FEMA doesn't know jack about stringing power lines, which is all they need now that the ice has melted. It just takes time, probably two weeks in some places here.
New Orleans was different in that you could drown and the damage was near total in many areas. Oh, and the local governments were both incompetent and corrupt. FEMA has no skills in any of these areas, just handing out cash and supplies. Oh wait, they don't have any skills doing that either.
Someone should write a book on FEMA, analyze what they did, and what would have happened without it, or what would have happened if the equivalent money was simply given to the Governors as block grants.
