Happy Eid to you all.
Normally I would have sent this to Sequel for treatment in his ongoing series on Islam. However, as an animal lover I could not let these two stories pass.
The first is a compilation of photos of Eid al-Ahda celebrations across the Islamic world. Eid al-Ahda is the commemoration of the Prophet Ibrihim (as the Muslims call Abraham father of the Jews) and his willingness to sacrifice his son (Isaac according to the Torah and the Bible and Ishmael according to the Muslims) to God. The celebrants sacrifice animals (at least they have evolved to where they don't sacrifice their own children still) to Allah. Sweetness & Light has pictures of the ritual sacrifice (HT LGF). The pictures are bloody and graphic so please do not follow the link if you are around children or those with a weak stomach.
Then there is this story out of Indonesia where a couple of followers of the "religion of peace" beat a dog almost to death because it was.....a dog.
"On Dec 2, Yeap rescued Joy at the Ki-Park Sri Utara construction site belonging to developer, Kepong Industrial Park Sdn Bhd (KIP Group).
Joy’s lower jaw was dangling and his tongue was hanging out.
Two eyewitnesses said they had seen him being beaten by Indonesian foreign workers who kept calling the dog haram as they continuously beat it.
Joy’s lower jaw was so badly injured but the tongue was saved despite having lacerations and blood clots. "
Here is a thought you animals....if the animal is haram (forbidden) walk away from it! A local Islamic scholar responded.
"The Quran does not support violence against animals, and I’m willing to give lectures, presentations and screen videos that supports what I am saying. "
Well if that were the case, then maybe they should rethink the animal sacrifice at least in the manner that they practice it. Oh I can hear you now...you eat meat and slaughterhouses are no better....WRONG! When an animal goes through a slaughterhouse it is not dragged hobbled to have their throats cut! When an animal goes through the slaughterhouse it is knocked unconscious and then (don't read further if you are squeemish) a metal spike is shot into it's brain instantly killing it. Unlike the struggling camel in the pictures Sweetness and Light posted, unlike the goats and sheet that have their throats slit and writhe in pain as their life is slowly drained out of their bodies! Take a look at that camel.....it's left front leg is tied up (so that it can not touch the ground) and tied to it's hind leg....it's mouth open in what can only be described as a scream as a long blade is thrust into it's neck. How is that not violence against animals?????
Now, will PETA have anything to say about this? Or will they continue to attack little old ladies in fur coats....little old ladies that can't fight back?

But it's a religious Duty! I can't help but observe that our brothers who follow the Mosaic tradition have moved away from blood offerings. Hmm. Religious evolution? A concept not available in the 9th century.
