Why fear Islam?
Over at Anti-Strib, we got into a discussion on Islam. What started the discussion was the comment below from this thread.
"The fact is our Holy Crusade view of Muslim terrorists is fear-driven, irrational, and wholly out of proportion to the risk. How afraid are you of something that killed 2,929 people in five years? Talk about crazy. Muslims want to kill me and my family -- yeah, apparently they are less effective at killing than swimming pools. That's the point.Dennis"
Well lots of people pointed out that it is not just here in America that radical Islamists are killing people. I would like to offer a few more examples of why radical Islam is something that we should be more concerned about than drownings.
First I would like to take you to Thailand, where "This land must be separated between Muslims and the nonbelievers. This land must be liberated, and an Islamic system must be its foundation,". How do you rationalize with this kind of a mindset? Where those who are not Muslim are not allowed to live in peace? Then on to India where men hide behind the hajib in order to get close to their victims in order to murder them. There is no such thing as free speech or freedom of the press in Muslim countries as these two journalists found out. Judges who disagree with the radical Islamists are subject to attempts on their lives. Even Communist regimes like China are not immune to the terrorist threat. Radical Islamists have no respect for artistic freedom as Theo Van Gogh found out. Another reason to be concerned about Islam is the fact that slavery is still practiced in Islamic countries.
I could go on and on and on, as Tracy and Sequel and others have done. The bottom line is that radical Islam is not a threat that is just an American threat. It has actually been a world threat for at least 30 years, in it's current form. It is only since September 11, 2001 that we self centered Yanks became aware of it. On that day, radical Islam broke down our front door and woke America up to the fact that they were here. They demanded that we pay attention to them and for a while we did. However, if people like Dennis had their way, we would soon retreat behind our borders and content ourselves with American Idol and Survivor, not realizing that the ultimate survival test may be yet to come.
