Double Standards In Action (Again)
Here we go again. It is abhorrent to put a picture of Barack Obama next to a picture of a noose (see comments), but it is quite OK to hang Sarah Palin in effigy (HT Capt. Ed).
The homeowner in question, Chad Michael Morrissete claims that the display is "art" and should be taken as a sign of the season.
At least the "artist" has the stones to admit (in the video report) that there is a massive double standard in action here.
But then he tries to excuse it with the comment about the image of a hanged black man being "more intense" than that of a white woman. Talk about your racist codes....it's ok to terrorize white women because of the color of THEIR skin??????? Isn't that specifically what Dr. King preached AGAINST?
A Halloween decoration showing a mannequin dressed as vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin hanging by a noose from the roof of a West Hollywood home is drawing giggles from some passers-by and gasps of outrage from others.
The mannequin is dressed in brunet wig, glasses and a red business suit. Another mannequin dressed as John McCain emerges from a flaming chimney.
The homeowner in question, Chad Michael Morrissete claims that the display is "art" and should be taken as a sign of the season.
He says "it should be seen as art, and as within the month of October. It's Halloween, it's time to be scary it's time to be spooky."
At least the "artist" has the stones to admit (in the video report) that there is a massive double standard in action here.
“I know if we had done it with Barack Obama, people would’ve probably thrown things through our windows,” Morrisette said.
But then he tries to excuse it with the comment about the image of a hanged black man being "more intense" than that of a white woman. Talk about your racist codes....it's ok to terrorize white women because of the color of THEIR skin??????? Isn't that specifically what Dr. King preached AGAINST?

I never did find out -- Did Capt. Ed ever back off of his breathless "Ashly Todd is so injured!" bandwagon? We last saw him rejecting claims that it was a hoax....

Anon - try finding a post that is just a LITTLE more current than that. His updated post at Hot Air (which was updated the day after the story broke) did include the news that the incident was a hoax. That is part of the reason why I didn't "report" on it - it looked a little funny.
However, follow the link (novel thought I know) to the local news story and SEE FOR YOURSELF the effigy and the comments of the owner of the home. The ask yourself just what your first two comments had to do with the price of tea in China (or the story linked to).

He is not trying to terrorize white women. He is an ultra-liberal designer who has had his art (Hollywood window decorations) featured in very prominent magazines. He has characterized Madonna, David Beckham, and Marylyn Monroe very well. One of his characterizations of Madonna was based on the Venus a classical monument to womanhood. I am ultra-republican, and defend our nation's freedom. When talking to my Brother-in-law, we disagree politically but I appreciate his ability to express his views and exercise the rights I deffend. I hope this characterization brings positive results to McCain and Palin in the polls.

I think you missunderstood. I know that he was not trying to terrorize white women. That does not mean that they would not feel terrorized. The key to your comment is intent. Hate crimes are about intent and an actual victim. In this case, I would say there are potentially 3 billion indirect victims.
I think that it would be difficult to have an effigy of a black man being hung and not terrorize blacks.
I do, however, think that it would be possible to intend to not terroze balcks while displaying an effigy of a black man hanging.
Your question asked about hanging a black presidential candidate. I don't think you actually mean literally hanging Obama, because that would obviously be terrorism and would be absolutely wrong.
I think that what my brother-in-law did was wrong, but I do support his right to do it because in means that I still have the right to express my views as well.
