Caucus of Defeat
During the 2006 campaign, anytime a Republican chastised a Democrat (say a Rep. John Murtha) for advocating for withdrawal from Iraq, the DNC (or DCCC or DSCC depending on whose turn it was that day) would always indignantly proclaim that they were not advocating for defeat. Well today, the DSCC launched an ad campaign that does what they said they were not doing....advocating for defeat!
"Now he has another chance. Call Coleman. Tell him it’s time to do the right thing.
It’s time to start bringing our troops home.
Call Sen. Coleman Tell him to start bringing our troops home" (emphasis mine)
OK - first off pet peeve time. How hard is it to refer to the Senator by his title. I mean if a right wing troglodyte like me can remember to put a REP. in front of Murtha, how hard is it for our enlightened betters in the DNC?To be fair - I have chastised more than a few of my fellow conservatives for referring to former President Clinton as just "Clinton" so don't even go there.....
The Democrats have been rooting for our failure in Iraq - KNOWING FULL WELL THAT IT WILL BE VIEWED AS A SIGN OF WEAKNESS by al Qaeda - for the last year. Just as when President Reagan pulled out of Lebanon the Islamists view it as a sign of weakness, just as they viewed it as a sign of weakness when President Bush 41 didn't march on Baghdad, just as they viewed President Carter's pull out of Iran and just as they viewed everything President Clinton did as weak! And they are viewing the fact that we are not responding to the constant interference in Iraq (from Iran and Syria) as a terminal sign of weakness. When do you suppose the American people are going to learn that we are facing a ruthless enemy that wants nothing more than to see our way of life wiped off of the face of the earth!
The sad fact is, the Democrats have a majority in both the House and the Senate. If they REALLY wanted to, they could stop this war tomorrow by simply voting to defund the war. However, they are too cowardly (yes I did say cowardly - you want me to repeat it?) to take the vote because they KNOW that they American people will vote them out of power in 2008 (if not sooner - there is a thing called recall voting). They KNOW that the American people do not want defeat so they are going to try to pressure a few "squishy" Republicans to cave. DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN!!!!! If you care about this, contact Senator Coleman and tell him to hold fast to his beliefes that politicians should not be dictating troop levels. Tell Senator Coleman to let the Generals do what they need to do to take care of al Qaeda in Iraq.
Can we question their patriotism NOW?????
UPDATE: Over at Heading Right Captain Ed has his usual well reasoned response to the Democrats spelling out just what will happen if we pull out now! It is must reading for all Americans.
UPDATE AND BUMP! AAA has the American Legion's response to the Congressional debate. It's a beaut! Remember, the American Legion is a veterans organization. I would think that these vets know more than anyone what this debate is really all about.
